Growth task force agenda a loser
The Clark County Community Growth Task Force made expansion of the county mass transit plan a priority recommendation for “furthering the Urban Design goal” in its recent report.
Smearing TABOR
If it saves taxpayers money, it must be bad
Democrats and Republicans alike this year have ridiculed Bob Beers’ legislation for a Colorado-style Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR). Many have said the measure is failing in Colorado, and that the state’s governor and legislators need to overturn the measure to avert disaster in that state.
A swing… and a miss
Oscar’s arguments for tax-financed sports facilities strike out
One of Mayor Oscar Goodman’s pet projects is to bring a major league baseball team to Las Vegas. At a recent breakfast presentation, the mayor promised that he would be throwing out the first pitch by the 2008 season.
Regressive Wal-Martxism
Wal-Mart serves the nation’s consumers, rich and poor, well. Leftwing union shills and professional Wal-Mart haters need to get a life.
Recently Las Vegas Weekly ran a feature article entitled “Big Box O’ Poverty” about the supposed evils of Wal-Mart. The article, by one Liza Featherstone, is subtitled: “As Wal-Mart Expands in Vegas, Progressives Nationally Call for Louder Opposition to Its Exploitation of the Poor, Women and the Welfare System”
Dubious Reassurances
The Nevada Public Employees’ Retirement System (NVPERS) is attempting to answer -- through a statement on its website -- increasing doubts about the financial viability of its system.
The Best Performance Auditing
Positioning itself for the upcoming election, the Republican Assembly Caucus recently announced its “Contract for Nevada.”
The Invisible Victims
A recent poll found that two-thirds of the respondents intend to vote for the proposed increase in Nevada’s minimum wage from $5.15 to $6.15 per hour on November 2nd.
Unfortunately, those who vote “yes” on Question 6 will be harming the very people that the initiative is supposed to help.
The Threadbare Purse of PERS
In a recent letter to the editor published in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, police officer Ruben E. Hood makes the claim that the Nevada Public Employee Retirement System “is one of the healthiest, most financially sound retirement systems in the country.” He goes on to write that because of laws keeping the pension plan from being looted, there is no chance of “any ‘underfunding’ of pension plans that would fall on the shoulders of the taxpayers.”
Higher Indoctrination
Anyone who has spent any time on college campuses knows that most college faculty members are left-leaning and likely vote Democrat, if not Green or Socialist.
Government, Not Growth, is Nevada's Problem
To hear local politicians and pundits talk, the word “growth” is a dirty word. A Las Vegas Sun editorial screamed, “Literally, it’s growth plan—or bust.” George Knapp wrote in the Las Vegas Mercury
recently: “I think the quality of life here has taken a major nosedive in the past 10 years. Excessive growth is the reason.”
